Spiraling down
Joanne Zeis
$150.00
Artist statement: I love photographing abandoned buildings. This particular one was being renovated, but we got legal access. The staircase! Absolutely amazing and wonderful to shoot, as long as you're not afraid of heights when looking down to the bottom. Sure glad I have an anti-shake camera. Specific medium: Photography
Summer dreams
Joanne Zeis
Artist statement: For a long time, scratchboard (like this one) was my preferred media. I would use a scalpel blade for the delicate cuts and loved the whole process -- until I discovered digital photography and learned how to capture light and shadows in a fraction of the time. But I'm still hoping to get back to my old scratchboard ways. Specific medium: Scratchboard
Fossils
Michael Zeis
$225.00
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: I take pictures of old things. Weather adds texture to surfaces and fades colors. In an abandoned home, Christmas decorations left behind in a closet signal a rapid departure. Notices tacked on the bulletin board in an abandoned mill give clues about both the mill owners and the mill workers. Rows of sinks and toilets in an abandoned asylum invite us to imagine the lives of patients who once lived there, and the workers who cared for them. Specific medium: All-plastic Holga camera.

En Garde
Mary Zywar
Artist statement: In my watercolor paintings, I try to capture elements of their personality. In “En Garde”, the young man is resting between bouts during his para fencing Olympic trials. The expression on his face shows he is listening earnestly to his coach. Having only just turned 15 years old, he certainly exhibits a maturity far more than his years!
Professor Emeritus
Mary Zywar
Artist statement: “Professor Emeritus” is my watercolor portrait of a dear friend who has taught at the college level for close to fifty years. I captured him as he was serenely preparing for his classes.
His soft plaid shirt against the worn plaid of his chair proved to be quite challenging. I eventually covered my work to isolate a small section at a time. This enabled me to focus on the abstract shapes, colors and patterns. Specific medium: watercolor
