Artist statement: I chose Gloucester's Eastern Point Lighthouse for a landscape oil painting even though my photos of it date back to 2007. After working on it for a month or two, I returned to the scene later this summer only to discover that the two closest buildings were now missing. The clapboards of the buildings were difficult to paint, but I really enjoyed painting the people. I'm a birder as well as an artist, so it was nice painting one of my interests. Specific medium: oil on canvas

Artist statement: Much like the advent of word processing made retyping an entire manuscript a thing of the past, digital image making & desktop editing greatly enhanced a photographer's creative potential. The immediate feedback of the histogram & camera back copy allowed for in field adjustments not possible before. Without these advancements photography would still have been a great source of personal pleasure, but with them it's become a great source of artistic satisfaction and a forever avocation.
