Artist statement: I grew up in a home where gardens dominated the yard. As a kid, I didn't appreciate the crowding of my play space. As an adult, I am blessed with a wife who loves to garden and possesses a wonderful eye for color and design. I try to capture some of the beauty in her gardens. Sometimes one can stand and be surrounded by the colors and structure. Other times, one has to get down on hands and knees and peer closely at beauty hidden from the casual glance.

Artist statement: My subjects are usually seascapes, landscapes, and still life. I paint in oils and watercolors. I often paint plein air because it combines two of my favorite things: painting and being outdoors. My landscapes tend towards impressionism and illuminism. I am inspired by the Cape Cod School of Art and Impressionists. My still life painting is a classical approach of realism usually painted with grisaille underpainting, glazing, and chiaroscuro effects. For me, it is always about light and color.
