Artist statement: Making photographs has long been the means by which I have documented and interpreted my place in the world. There are almost no portraits in my photo library but with that one exception, the subject matter of my photographs is less important than the interplay of light with that subject, and if the subject is more abstract than recognizable that's good too.

Apollo Adorned
Sharyn Orfalea
$450.00
Artist statement: On a recent visit to Tuscany, we visited the town of Pienza. While walking along the cobbled stoned streets, I spotted a sculpture of a bust tucked into the side of a 15th-century building. The bust was adorned with forsythia. After some research, I found the bust was of Apollo; the god of sun and light, noted for his "hair bow". I decided what better way to depict the light and shadows than with a charcoal rendering. Specific medium: Charcoal and pastels on Roma paper
A Tuscan Autumn
Sharyn Orfalea
$450.00
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: On a past visit to Cortona, Italy, I came across a charming fall vignette nestled between cobbled stoned streets and ancient buildings. The colors, shadows, and light inspired me to paint in oils this charming autumnal scene in muted fall colors.
The Stone Goddess of Victory
Sharyn Orfalea
$450.00
Artist statement: Looking back over my photos from years ago, I recently found a photograph of the statue of the Winged Victory that I took while visiting the Louvre. Because of the different values of lights and darks, I thought by using charcoal, I could best convey depth, structure, and tonal values in my drawing.
Hidden Garden
Sharyn Orfalea
$450.00
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: While in Cortona Italy this past spring, we visited the winery, Tenement d'Alessandro Marzano. Tucked away on the beautiful grounds was an enchanting, if somewhat overrun pond garden. The standing pool was surrounded by volcanic rocks and overgrown vined trees. Hiding in the garden was a statue of a woman looking for something unknown. By painting with oils, I hoped to capture the color and tonal differences between the statue and the surrounding garden. Specific medium: Oil on panel
Masked
Mads Otis
$100.00
Artist statement: This piece titled "Masked" is an image I took that was apart of a project reflecting on perception. This image is a representation of how we see ourselves in a mirror, and what may be looking back at us that we may not recognize. As well as how this shifts our perception of ourselves and the people around us, I found myself most enveloped in this image, as the reflection twists the message of the image, as well light shifts the weight of the image. Specific medium: Digital Photography
Oblivious
Mads Otis
$70.00
Artist statement: This piece is a showcase of a lot of movement, and how a constant level of movement can cause unawareness. It reminds me of the face pace work we live in and how often, it's easier to ignore what is not directly effecting us personally. This image was created from a long exposure, the process directly contradicting the pace of society which can be viewed though the movement of the subject and light. Specific medium: Digital
Sculpted Beauty
Mads Otis
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: This piece is an expression of gender and the way each person expressions their masculinity or femininity. This piece explores specifically how makeup can make us feel most like ourselves when we see ourselves in a mirror. This piece is representative of the people who find their gender expression doesn't entirely fit in, and being confident in what makes them feel most comfortable. Specific medium: Film
