Artist statement: I paint from a mix of observation, instinct, and gut responses. As in everything, I try to be fearless and strong.
The human figure still continues to be most compelling to me; working from the model when possible, photo references, or self-portraits in the mirror. Ideas often enter in and make it something more. I use the methods learned from master teachers often. Sometimes their words stick in my head and offer solutions. The searches, the surprises, and the paint itself, keep me in awe and Specific medium: Oil
Communion
Marsha Gleason
$300.00
Artist statement: “Communion”, and a few other collages, were recently created from images that I reworked. Using parts of oil paintings done on paper, found papers, color-aid papers, and unfinished starts, the recycled parts became “reseen “. This was great fun, pushing together the abstract and the figurative elements, focusing on color and shape and a new composition. The palette for this piece was borrowed fromartist Milton Avery, whose work I saw at the Wadsworth Antheneum, Hartford, Connecticut.
Diebenkorn in his Santa Monica LR

Boston Public Library Grads
Susan Gomes
$80.00
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: Photography is even more fun when encountering a serendipitous moment that makes the image click. The day I was taking photographs in Boston Public Library's Chavannes Gallery, these new graduates in gowns came to visit the Library. Were they there to thank a librarian, to walk through Bates Hall Reading Room, or take a photo in the Abby Room. Whatever the reason, how fitting for them to be in this repository of knowledge. Specific medium: Digital Photography
Dory Days
Susan Gomes
$80.00
Artist statement: As a graphic designer, I have been a fan of the works in a simplified, graphic style, but I hadn't had the opportunity to delve into digital design. I decided to try my hand at it with this image. Using a photo I took in Rockport, MA., I created the shapes that made the boats and the dock, working in layers over the photograph. It was a lengthy process, but I feel the bright colors and more dramatic shadows really give the image a brighter, happier feel.
Crossed Wires
Susan Gomes
$90.00
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: Photography is all about capturing light, so what better way to do so than to photograph a light source! I loved the gold and white wires and the white bulb outline, but the overall image was missing something. I decided to duplicate the wires and played with them in the background. The grey patterns in the background give the image a more vintage feel, while their juxtaposition creates additional interesting shapes, without distracting from the colored bulb in the front.
Light Waves
Susan Gomes
$130.00
Artist statement: The word photography means "Drawing with Light". This image is literally drawing or painting with light. I love the precision of the arching circles in the background which lead my eye to marvel at the intricate cross-hatched lines which add saturation and depth as the strands fade into darkness. That calm organization is in distinct contrast to the chaotic waves in the foreground, which create a jumble of overlapping light trails. It's a little bit like unpredictable life sometimes.

My spirit rejoices, facing the challenges the light presents me with.I keep my eyes attentive, and my mind open, trying, to catch that light. Specific medium: Oil on Canvas
A sunny morning.
Libia Goncalves
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: Painting was a hobby, now it is my passion and a necessity. Watercolor was my first love, (1984), the one that told me “You are mine and I am yours, you are my creator, I make you an artist” Each media has its charm and challenges, but they all have two things in common: “Light, expressed in glorious color and my unique approach to dealing with them”. I have lots of things to learn yet, but as of now, I am very excited about my level of progress, and the talent I am unfolding. Specific medium: Watercolor on paper

Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket
Ellen Gould
$450.00
Artist statement: “Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket” was a challenge for me to paint the white eggs in a white woven basket on a white cloth. The woven staves of the basket provides a contrast to the smooth eggs safely nestled inside and the one cracked egg represents the small challenges we face in our lives. Specific medium: Oil on linen canvas.
Happy Hour
Ellen Gould
$450.00
Selected for Exhibition Artist statement: “Happy Hour” was my first painting where I chose to paint glass objects and the liquid in them. Ellen Gould
$450.00
Artist statement: “My Corn Muffins Ain’t Cooked Inside” is a self comment about how even at the age of 68 I am a work in progress.
