White moss and decayed leaf upon blue ice with green edge melt
Steven Arcone
$700.00

Selected as Alternate
Artist statement: As a retired glaciologist I enjoy macro photographing crystal formations on small ponds, and their decay into different forms. I seek to merge complex science and art. The thin ice allows the colorful fall debris beneath to provide background color to the blue and silvery crystals, and crystal metamorphism and capillary fringes where meltwater meets ice constantly provide new forms. My work abstracts larger physical processes across small ponds and in turn, often appears abstract.
